Dear Friend,
In 2006, a collective of artists, activists, and gender-based violence survivors launched The Voices and Faces Project, a global storytelling project created to bring the names, faces, and testimonies of survivors of gender-based violence to the attention of the public.
We believed then, as we do now, that our stories can challenge and change the world. And that each of us are here to be heard.
Nearly two decades later we’ve brought our trauma-informed testimonial writing workshops and narrative advocacy trainings to four continents, creating more change in more ways and places than we ever thought possible.
Now our award-winning organization – which for 16 years running has received the America’s Best Charities Seal of Excellence – is embracing a change of its own, rebranding and expanding to become Center for Story & Witness.
Our mission? At Center for Story & Witness we seek to cultivate and share stories that bear witness to a range of human rights issues, calling injustice by its name and calling the world to confront it. To do this:
- We’ve expanded our testimonial writing program, offering our signature two-day storytelling workshops for gender-based violence survivors alongside new writing programs for refugees and immigrants, those impacted by economic injustice, and those impacted by racial injustice;
- We’ve created an all-new roster of narrative advocacy trainings for those ready to think in new ways about the power, purpose, and ethics of storytelling;
- We’re partnering with artists, writers, and content creators who are as passionate about human rights as they are about artistic excellence, bringing the stories developed by our workshop writers to life in change-creating ways;
- And we’re developing our Teacher Training Institute & Fellows Program in order to inspire and train a new generation of workshop instructors and facilitators who are deeply connected to the communities we work with.
