Kali Casab

Communications & Digital Media Manager

A writer, communications expert, community organizer, and lover of all things mindfulness, Kali Casab believes that justice and healing should go hand in hand.

Growing up in a Mexican-Chaldean household in Metro-Detroit, Kali has always been passionate about liberation, healing, and social justice. As a child, she discovered her love for the written word as well as her belief in the power of mindfulness, and she has used these tools to work through trauma and to support others in doing the same.

Guided by the belief that wellbeing and social justice are not distinct but must be addressed together, Kali received her Health and Wellness degree from the University of Michigan, with a minor in Minority, Gender, and Inequality Studies. As our Communications and Digital Media Manager at Center for Story & Witness, Kali makes sure that our messaging is effective, uplifting, on brand, and that any stories of survivors are shared with dignity and care.

Kali is equally committed to bringing mindfulness to those most marginalized, which is why Kali’s trauma-informed guided meditation practice has become a staple of our Chicago-based workshop series and our online programming, allowing us to open and close our workshops in a healing, grounded way.

Beyond her role here, Kali is a community organizer of over 15 years. She is also an active Associate Board member and certified rape crisis advocate at our partner organization, Resilience. Kali believes deeply in land back as a framework for justice, and her relationship with the land shapes everything she does.

At the heart of all that Kali does is her conviction that healing and liberation are inseparable, and that the work of justice must be rooted in the land, the body, and community.

“I believe we each hold the power to heal and change the world for the better — and that starts with us being both vulnerable and space holders. We must consciously listen and amplify the stories of those most impacted by injustice.”
