Marcia Gordon Preston
Global Director of Strategic Partnerships & Philanthropy
A strategist, storyteller, and catalyst for change, Marcia Gordon Preston brings over two decades of experience in nonprofit fundraising, board leadership, and purpose-driven project management to her role at Center for Story & Witness.
Marcia’s career spans leadership positions with organizations including LINK Unlimited Scholars, Creative Marketing Resources, and The Harambee Initiative, where she cultivated major donors, led capital campaigns, and designed national events that inspired collective giving. Her ability to connect mission with momentum has made her a trusted advisor to boards, executives, and community leaders alike.
Born in Jamaica and raised in the Virgin Islands, Marcia’s passion for this work is deeply personal. Having witnessed firsthand how poverty and gender-based violence silence too many women and girls, she has devoted her career to creating pathways of empowerment—where stories are not only told, but truly heard.
Marcia holds a B.S. in Organizational Leadership from Dominican University and completed four semesters of Writing and English Literature at New York University. A lifelong advocate for equity and creative expression, she currently serves on the boards of three nonprofits dedicated to youth, education, and community advancement.
“Narrative is liberation. Funding justice isn’t just about raising money—it’s about raising stories that demand to be heard and transforming the world by listening. ”
